Yorkies of Treasures South Africa

Yorkies South Africa

Being a small breeder, my little treasures get all the love, devotion and attention they deserve.

My dogs are definitely not kennel dogs and consider themselves as family members living in the house with us.

I am dedicated to the health and happiness of my home raised puppies and therefore only sell puppies to carefully selected pet lovers who will love and raise them as good as, or better than I do.

Enjoy my website and feel free to contact me.

We are a member of KUSA

BE sure you buy your Yorkie from a reliable KUSA member

The Yorkshire terrier made its first appearance in a bench show in England in 1861 as a “broken haired Scotch Terrier”.

More than 47 000 Yorkies were registered in the USA in 2005. The average weight of your Yorkie should be between 2,0 and 3,2kg. Beware: The extra tiny dogs (less than 1.2kg), are extremely susceptible to hereditary and non-hereditary health problems which can result in large veterinary bills and lots of tears!

The Yorkie is a small dog with a big attitude! One minute they will snuggle on your lap and the next moment they will tear after the neighbour’s Rottweiler, promising to show who is boss! They are terriers after all and will protect their territory valiantly!

Please supervise around small children. Children need to understand that the tiny bone structure can break much easier than many toys. Yet – a wonderful companion for adults and older children!!

Please Remember:
Never put pressure on your breeder or insist on getting your puppy before it being at least eight weeks old! The parents still have a huge role to play in teaching the puppies, especially during these last weeks (8-10).

Be careful not to leave your Yorkie in a car. They are very susceptible to extreme hot or cold temperatures. They have a very low hair density where only one hair sprouts from each hair follicle and no undercoat like most dog breeds. Because they resemble human hair in so many ways, people being allergic to dogs can more than often tolerate Yorkies!

Droewors

Filed under: Business Opportunities, Food, Uncategorized — Ben @ 11:25 am

Droewors, Droe(dry)wors almost always accompany biltong. The two go hand in hand -  at any butchery you will always find them next to each other. It is even more popular than biltong, because it is a little cheaper than biltong.
The  number of recipes for droewors is legion, because there are such a variety of tastes in South Africa.  The recipe that we here at Delightful Foods use is a special family recipe which is kept a secret to guarantee you the best dry wors in the country.  All our dry wors is made using only the best quality beef, pork  salt  and spices.  We only use the best quality (derms)  in our wors which is then also left to winddry ,just like our biltong.
The period of time the  wors is left to dry, varies from 2 to 3 weeks, depending on how dry you want it to be.  The longer it hangs, the drier it will become.  Some people prefer it very dry, but others can’t wait for their favourite snack and it is edible after some 10 days of hanging.
Droewors is an ideal outdoor snack,  especially appreciated by hikers hiking the many hiking trails and walks in South  Africa. It is ideal because it is light, and can be carried with ease by hikers as part of their meals, or together with peanuts, raisins and energy bars, form a healthy snack providing enough energy  for a tiresome trip.
Because droewors is such a favourite with South  Africans,  it is produced  commercially by large factories to supply in the countrywide need, but we here at Delightful Foods produce our droewors homemade and with loving care. We put in extra care and pay attention to add  just the right amount of meat and spices so that every centimetre of wors that we make will be perfect. We never deviate from our recipe because if we do, our wors will not be as perfect as we want it to be.

Biltong

Filed under: Business Opportunities, Food, Uncategorized — Ben @ 11:18 am

Biltong, Delicious  !   mouthwatering !  scrumptious !  This is only a few words that can describe the biltong made here at Delightful Foods.  Once people  have tried our biltong, they come back for more, and that is because we only use the quality graded meat and we do not compromise. People return to our butcheries in Pretoria because the know  that our biltong is the best !
Our speciality !  We have been in the meat industry for more than 24 years and have perfected the art of making boerewors, biltong and dried wors.
Only the best quality fresh meat comes from farms in the Limpopo and Freestate provinces, which is well-known for the quality meat that is produced there.  Animals grases freely on the grasslands. They are not fed any artificial feeds, growth hormones or any substance that can influence the meat in any way, just pure South African meat at its best.
The art of making biltong and dried wors is a purely South African tradition, more or less as part of South Africa as rugby,  which actually is synonym with biltong, Ask any South African what a rugby match is without delicious South African biltong !
The making of biltong and dried wors originated a few centuries ago and is part of South Africa’s history and culture.  Farmers during the 18th century had no electricity, were living in remote areas of the country, and had to find a way to preserve meat as there were no cooling facilities. They preserved the meat by cutting it into smaller pieces,  rubbing it with salt and spices such as coriander, clove  and pepper,  and laying in vinegar  or brine to preserve it. Then it was hanged in an open dry space where it winddried for about 2 to 3 weeks, exactly as we here at Delightful foods still make it today, after nearly 300 years. Our biltong dries naturally, not using artificial methods such as drying tunnels.
In the earlier times,  the ideal time to make biltong was during the winter months, because during summer there was a risk of the meat rotting,  but nowadays with our modern facilities and equipment, biltong can be made right through the year.
Although the art of biltong making was perfected  and eaten mainly by the 18th century farmers, biltong and dried wors had become a delicatessen loved by all South Africans.
Beef is mainly used to make biltong, but  the meat of game such as springbok, kudu and impala are also used to make delicious biltong.
Biltong is usually made from lean good quality beef.  Biltong can be made to suit everyone’s taste.  Some people prefer biltong  dry with no fat, others on the other hand prefer their biltong with a thin, even a thick layer of fat,  and some also prefer the meat to be a little wetter, which makes it a bit softer.   However, South African biltong is loved  and appreciated  by everyone.
Biltong is mainly enjoyed on its own as a snack,  and as was previously mentioned , a MUST with any rugby game, but can also be used in a variety of other dishes,    etc  pizza, omelettes, quiches and as a filling in pita breads and in pancakes.  It is a wonderful snack to fill up lunch boxes, providing enough protein which is so essential in the growth of young children.  Grated dry biltong makes a e e snacks that do not have to be given up if you want to loose weight.
Ask any South African what his or her favourite snack is, the answer will almost surely be :  BILTONG!!!!!!!

Boerewors

Filed under: Business Opportunities, Food, Uncategorized — Ben @ 11:00 am

Boerewors, Our homemade boerewors is the best you will ever taste.  That can be proved by the fact that our clients come back again and again for our products.  Why ?  Because the meat that we use is  only the best quality beef lamb and pork from the grain producing parts of our country, Limpopo, Gauteng and the Freestate, because that is what our animals eat, just the best quality grain , and succulent grass, nothing artificially is added.
The recipe that we use to produce our quality boerewors, is a family recipe that has been  used for the last 23 years by the Erasmus family. It is a secret recipe that has proven to be the right one, for our clients keep on coming back for more.
There are also a  few  variations on the original recipe.  We produce a very special cheesewors, using only fresh cheddar cheese, not imitations of cheese or cheese powder.  The fresh cheese that we use, gives our wors that authentic “cheesy”flavour when it is braaied over  open fire.
We also have a “spek’wors, using bits of bacon and a ……………
Having a braai (barbeque) is a favourite pastime of many thousands of South Africans. It is also the favourite way of entertaining friends and family as South Africa is a sunshine country,  experiencing a very long and hot summer.  There is no better way than to spend these days having a braai, and boerewors is the one ingredient that is essential  to have a enjoyable meal.
