Health Care

Health Care – Medical Aid South Africa

From the perspective of an individual or Company which may already have a medical aid package in place, why not  incorporate the Day1Health package, together with a low cost medical aid and GAP cover? From a practical point of view you will have the free, unlimited Doctor’s and Dentist’s visits (and other benefits of Day1Health), but also a medical aid which wil pick up the costs of elective surgery.

Health Care

GAP cover provides hospitalization costs up to 300% of medical aid tariff, something your current package probably doesn’t do anyway. This way a member will also benefit from the cash payout of the Day1Health scheme even if the medical aid covered all the hospitalization costs, which is perfectly legit and we have found this arrangement will generally result in a saving of one third to fifty percent of the costs of your current medical aid.

• More and more working people cannot afford medical aid
 • The workforce is an employers greatest asset
 • Their health is a priority
 • The majority of working people in South Africa have no private health cover
 • Working people want access to private healthcare
 • Giving employees at least access to healthcare is an employers fundamental social responsibility.

Affordable Medical Aid & Hospital Plan

MEDICAL AID & HOSPITAL PLAN

A Medical Aid has to comply with legal requirements in terms of providing minimum benefits for hospitalization and so forth, while a really cheap medical aid barely offer any real time protection when compared to our hospital plan, which provides healthcare under an insured basis, which has different legal requirements as well as for example no specific minimum benefits.

CareCross linked Doctors, which are the prescribed health professionals as per the rules of our healthcare plan, are spread all over South Africa; you will find one or two of them in some the most far out flung corners of South Africa, providing valuable health care services to the community, which invariably includes our members.

Our Hospital Plan is geared to provide protection against the cost of hospitalization medical expenses; for example, someone suffers a heart attack, brain tumour etc and an additional R 9,000 per day will be paid, which many a cheap medical aid may not even pay
.
We aimed, from when this plan was first conceived, to offer a very real and practical hospital plan benefit package in stead of merely paying a few hundred rand paid for having been admitted and in that sense ended up with something better than many a cheap medical aid plan.

A medical aid is under no obligation, to provide the types of payment of hospital accounts following an accident. The Motor Vehicle Accident fund amendments now hardly compensate more than our hospital plan benefits and South Africans need to make sure that a cheap medical aid doesn’t end up leaving them exposed.

Upon permanent disability due to an accident, our hospital plan package will pay a benefit of up to R 250,000 for the main member, per incident irrespective of actual costs incurred, which many cheap medical aids will at best restrict to perhaps the cost at a Government hospital only.

Our hospital plan is not a Medical Aid, not even a cheap medical aid, but a Stated Benefit Insurance Hospital Plan. You still need to ensure that you have adequate protection for events such as heart attack, stroke, cancer, organ transplant etc, using life policy benefits, for example.

Our section 1 healthcare benefits include the cost of medication. Your GP or Dentist has to prescribe medication from the CareCross Medication Formulary which they are fully aware of. If they aren’t dispensing from their rooms you can get your medication at Medi-Kredit linked pharmacy, similar to most medical aid rules.

Carecross is not a hospital group but a Private Practitioner Network ONLY. With a DAY1 Hospital Plan you can go to any Hospital both Private or State but remember the Stated Benefits as described in our brochures will be paid to YOU, ie. you are responsible for settling the Hospital.

On our hospital plan you’re only covered in South Africa but if you have an accident or fall ill in one of the immediate neighboring countries (Swaziland, Lesotho, Botswana, Namibia, Mozambique or Zimbabwe) you have to get yourself to the nearest border post and ER24 will transport you to the most appropriate Hospital.

Membership of our hospital plan is restricted to healthy applicants up to age 55, unless by agreement (if you’re a little older, please do submit your application anyway and we’ll advise the outcome). Cover expires at the age of 65, unless by agreement and once again it will be considered relative to your state of health and claims history.

Prevent Swine Flu

Prevent SWINE FLU  (Varkgriep) , SINUSITUS, FLU etc

Approved disinfectant to prevent Swine Flu

Green Building – Do your buildings create a healthy environment for their occupants?  The building industry is increasingly focused on making its buildings greener, which includes using healthier, less polluting and more resource-efficient practices. Indoor environmental quality (IEQ) refers to the quality of the air and environment inside buildings, based on pollutant concentrations and conditions that can affect the health, comfort and performance of occupants — including temperature, relative humidity, light, sound and other factors.  Good IEQ is an essential component of any building,
especially a green building.

ASK our staff about preventing Swine Flu and other virus as well as  bacterial infections.

Most people spend 90% of their time indoors

HVAC Systems are excellent breeding grounds for harmful airborne contaminants to gather and then spread throughout a building. When HVAC Systems are contaminated with dust, mold, construction debris, bacteria, or insulation fibers the indoor air quality of the facility suffers, putting patients at a higher risk in healthcare facilities, and damaging employee productivity for businesses. When the contaminants are combined with varying temperatures, humidity levels, and airflow in the HVAC System the indoor air environment can dramatically suffer. Not only are there additional health risk with a dirty HVAC System, but a system’s operating and efficacy standards are impaired, resulting in higher operating cost for the facility

Medical Furniture & Medical Equipment

Filed under: Business, Health, Uncategorized — Ben @ 10:34 am

Medfurn Medical Furniture Accessories for hospital beds are needed to provide professional and needed hospital care to patients.

Safety sides on hospital beds are commonly used in hospitals as well as old age care centers. The safety sides for beds can be supplied in different options such as:

Telescopic drop down safety sides with a chromed finish. These sides uses aluminum slides to guide and support the safety sides. The aluminum slides are attached directly to the bed by means of a bolt or they are attached to a G clamp that are attached to the bed in such a manner that they can be detached from the bed easy. Because of the telescopic function the safety sides could be mounted to the bed in different length options with a easy shortening or lengthening of the sides by pushing or pulling. To have safety sides in the down position a spring loaded knob on the slides can be pulled that would release the lock of the sides so that they can be lowered, by pulling the safety sides up it will be set in the upper position.

The second option is a fixed length safety side with a drop down function and a chromed finish the same as the telescopic safety sides. These sides are of a fixed length that could not be adjusted.

Swing down safety sides are usually used on patient trolleys or child and infant cot beds. These sides do swing down from the top.

Fold down safety sides can be attached to the bed in a permanent way from the factory or they can be purchase separately and be attached to a hospital bed. To lower these safety sides to the lower position a safety spring loaded pin are attached, by pulling this pin the safety sides can be lowered in a fold down function to fold out of the way. The finish on these sides can be epoxy coated or chromed.

Bed elevator folding is used on old types of beds. The function of a bed elevator is to lift the bed at different heights either at the head end or the feet end of the bed. The bed elevator folds into a flat form and has plastic covered hooks for the different heights.

Bed blocks are square blocks with sinked upper and lower ends forming different heights to provide height options. The bed blocks are made from sheet metal with a epoxy powder coated finish. By putting the blocks under the feet of the bed the bed is lifted to a higher level.

Bed trays are being used for eating in bed. The tray has fold away legs for easy storage that stands over your legs while sitting in bed eating. A tray is mounted as the top to provide a functional place for the cutlery.

Leg cradles are available in the following three sizes: large used as a body cradle dimensions 800 x 660 x 400, medium used as a leg cradle for adults with dimensions of 600 x 660 x 330 and the small cradle used for children as a leg cradle with the dimensions of 535 x 600 x 330. The cradles are made from 8mm solid round bar with a powder coated finish.

The folding backrest are used in beds that do not have the function of a lifting backrest. This lightweight adjustable backrest are made from round tubing and welded mesh. The backrest has a epoxy powder coated finish.

Chart board with clip comes as a lightweight or metal construction and with a choice of a hook to hang on a bed.

Chart board and x ray holder has two open compartments and hooks to hang on a bed. The hooks are covered with a plastic protection to prevent scratching and noise. Mostly the chart board and x ray holder are found in hospitals hanging on the feet end of the bed with the x rays and file of the patient.

Chart board holder for 20 chart boards are made from mild steel sheeting with a epoxy powder coated finish and sloped top The holder has a sloped top and so formed that each file can hang in its own compartment for easy handling. Available is a mobile stand for the chart board holder for easy moving of the holder.

Most of the currently popular programs, like the Zone Diet(r), Jenny Craig(r) and Weight Watchers(r), can only be purchased – either as books or by signing up for monthly dues or packaged food plans. However, not all is lost if you really want to find a diet that works, but you don’t want to break your budget. The new expensive programs are not the only diet programs that work. In fact, some of the healthiest menu plans and dietary programs were first written at the beginning of the 20th century, by the pioneers in the science of nature healing, or naturopathy.

Aloe Vera – Nature’s health solution

Filed under: Health — Ben @ 4:57 pm

Aloe Vera Health from natural plantsRecords exist of local inhabitants of Algoa Bay trading bags of aloe powder and crystal with European spice traders returning from the Spice Islands of the East in the 1700s.2Differentiation
The most commonly known aloe is Aloe vera, the cultivated aloe. This aloe originated from Yemenite Arabia or the Arabian Peninsula. From there it was transported by sailors to many territories including Barbados, where plantations were established. This accounts for its incorrect classification by early botanists as Aloe barbedensis. Aloe vera was originally a term applied to any true aloe, but now it refers to the aloe cultivated extensively in the southern USA and Mexico. Aloe vera has a very short stem, and fleshy succulent leaves. It does not contain much bitter sap, but contains a lot of watery gel and is used in the cosmetic and skincare industry.1
Aloe ferox is indigenous to the south-eastern regions of South Africa and is not cultivated to any great extent. It is a taller plant with a single stem and can grow to over 4 m. The leaves are tougher, with many thorns (thus the name ferox meaning ferocious). It has been harvested for centuries by indigenous people for the ‘bitter sap’ which exudes from the cut end of the leaf. This sap is boiled in cauldrons and solidifies on cooling. The resultant ‘aloe bitters’ are sold and exported.3

Active ingredients
The aloe bitters contain anthraquinones, mainly aloin and alecin, as well as resins. Aloin is pharmacologically inactive, but when ingested it is converted by the bowel flora to aloe-emodin anthrone, which has primarily a laxative effect. As the aloin has to reach the colon before any effect can occur, it takes about 8 hours to work. A dose taken at bedtime therefore results in a bowel movement the next morning.1
Many other therapeutic effects are claimed by purveyors of traditional preparations containing either the bitter sap or the bitter powder. One such indication was researched by world-renowned Professor M C Botha, immunologist in Professor Chris Barnard’s heart transplant team, and ethno-botanist. The results of this work resulted in a patented product for use in the treatment of arthritis. The anti-inflammatory effects of orally administered aloin have been demonstrated in animal experiments.4 An interesting advantage of this application of Aloe ferox bitters, is that the inactive aloin passes harmlessly through the stomach on the way to the colon leaving the stomach unaffected. Most of the anti-inflammatory drugs produced by the pharmaceutical industry can cause gastritis and stomach ulcers, making them unsuitable for treating arthritis in patients who have gastric ulcer problems.
An anecdote that Professor Botha was fond of relating was of a recently retired gentleman whose hip joint had become so painful with arthritis that he could no longer mow his own lawn. Three months after following the professor’s advice on the use of Aloe ferox he reported that not only was he mowing his lawn again, but at a recent church social evening he and his wife were the last couple to leave the dance floor!1
Other therapeutic uses for the aloe anthraquinones are the subject of ongoing investigation. Before his death in 2002 Professor Botha conducted many years of research into aloes, and Aloe ferox in particular. He patented a number of novel bioprocessing methods pertaining to Aloe ferox which have resulted in new products derived from this traditional medicinal plant.
The gel from the leaf of the Aloe ferox differs from that of Aloe vera and requires different processes for its extraction. It also has different properties – the concentration of aloe polysaccharides in Aloe ferox is five times greater than in Aloe vera. This property has been used to advantage by South African producers of cosmetics and skincare products. The gel has moisturising and soothing properties.
More interesting from the therapeutic perspective is the high-fibre powder produced from the Aloe ferox leaf. Professor Botha developed a method of removing the bitter sap from the leaf. The leaf can then be dried and milled into a powder. This powdered leaf has a number of beneficial properties when taken by mouth. It has a high dietary fibre content of 43%; one-third of this is soluble fibre and two-thirds is insoluble fibre. This makes it ideal as a fibre supplement for people on a typical Western diet. All commercially available fibre supplements are derived from grains such as wheat, oats and isphagula. These all contain phytic acid or phytates. The effect of the latter is to ‘chelate’ mineral ions in the gut. Effectively these fibre supplements rob the body of essential minerals such as calcium, iron and magnesium.
Aloe ferox leaf contains no phytic acid or phytates as it is a leaf and not a grain or seed. In addition the leaf contains significant amounts of natural calcium as well as iron, magnesium, zinc and other beneficial minerals. The net effect is that instead of depleting stores of essential minerals, the user of Aloe ferox fibre supplements intake of these minerals.1
Research has shown that daily intake of dietary fibre supplements can help to prevent most forms of colon disease.

Conclusion
Recently developed bioprocessing methods are unlocking the healing and health potentials of Aloe ferox. Revered by traditional healers over the centuries, this plant is finding a place on the shelves of health shops and pharmacies. As it becomes more available, so its medicinal properties will benefit more people.

Aloe ferox components Use
Whole leaf including bitters Treatment of constipation
Whole leaf including bitters Treatment of arthritis
Whole leaf excluding bitters Fibre supplement for regular bowel function
